Government is geared up to revive stalled road projects across the country, with the Ministry of Finance expected to mobilise resources to facilitate the resumption of construction works.
Minister of Transport and Public Works, Hon. Jappie Mhango, MP, made the assurance during a stakeholder engagement meeting, held in Edingeni, Mzimba district, where he said the Government remains committed to completing all affected road projects.
Mhango revealed that, in addition to the Jenda–-Embangweni-Edingeni Road, three other road projects have stalled and are awaiting funding. These include the, Mzalangwe–Euthini Road, Nambuma Turn-off–Nambuma Road in Dowa District, and the Lirangwe–Matunu–Machinga Road.
He said the Ministry of Finance has assured his Ministry that resources will be identified to enable construction works to resume on all the affected projects.
"The Ministry of Finance has assured us that resources will be identified so that all these projects can continue," said Mhango.
He further emphasised that once construction resumes, contractors will be given adequate time to complete the works in accordance with their contractual obligations to ensure the roads are built to the required standards.
"We want quality roads that will stand the test of time. Contractors should be allowed to utilise the full contract period so that they deliver quality work rather than rushing to complete projects at the expense of standards," he said.
The completion of the stalled road projects is expected to improve connectivity, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and contribute to the country's economic development by enhancing access to markets and other public services.
