Minister of Transport and Public Works, Hon. Jappie Mhango, today officially opened the 19th Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Africa Forum in Salima, describing it as a vital platform for shaping the future of transport and logistics across the continent.
Mhango reaffirmed Government’s commitment to modernising transport systems, highlighting key priorities such as upgrading road infrastructure, revitalising railways, developing inland water transport on Lake Malawi, and improving airport infrastructure.
“Modernising transport infrastructure will lead to more efficient systems and lower costs,” he said.
He added that logistics plays a critical role in unlocking economic gains by facilitating trade, reducing costs, and strengthening value chains.
Mhango further emphasized that transport remains the backbone of economic transformation, particularly for land-linked countries like Malawi, driving trade, industrialisation, and regional integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area, while stressing the importance of sustainability and climate resilience.
Held under the theme “Advancing Sustainable and Inclusive Transport and Logistics for Africa’s Future,” the forum has brought together policymakers and industry leaders to strengthen partnerships and drive practical solutions for the sector.
